  3. [00:23:22] <dcordes_> yes definetly the same problem on sharp zaurus. it's a problem on the driver side. please ignore
  4. [00:29:18] <nathanm> dcordes_: I think Koen had this problem and a workaround was posted.
  5. [00:30:42] <dcordes_> nathanm, thanks for the hint. I will search the beagle mailing list
  6. [00:30:47] <nathanm> adcordes_: Check this out -- and look at the thread:
  7. [00:30:55] <nathanm> dcordes_: http://marc.info/?l=linux-omap&m=122342215919985&w=2
  8. [00:32:21] <dcordes_> nathanm, nice, looks very similar to my bug
  9. [00:38:04] * jrmuizel (n=jrmuizel@CPE001f5be79d0f-CM0017ee62f8b0.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) Quit ()
  10. [00:38:43] <dcordes_> nathanm, it was posted in january. seems like many machines/devices are affected
  11. [00:38:50] <dcordes_> I will reply to that thread when I tried the patch
  12. [00:40:19] * jrmuizel (n=jrmuizel@CPE001f5be79d0f-CM0017ee62f8b0.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) has joined #beagle
  13. [00:52:43] <dcordes_> nathanm, unfortunately this patch is against dvb specific code I don't use for the em28xx. maybe the same function is affected though
  14. [00:54:01] <dcordes_> mabye Dr. Billy V. Koen can help :)

  16. [01:23:08] <jkridner|work> any recent updates to the Angstrom kernel image and l-o that might help with USB MSC via the MUSB port?
  17. [01:24:04] <jkridner|work> uImage on http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/ is still back on September 25th.

  22. [01:54:54] <nathanm> jkridner|work: What is the issue? Do you have just a MSC device, or multiple devices on a hub including MSC?
  23. [01:55:12] <jkridner> multiple devices on a hub including MSC.
  24. [02:04:18] <jkridner|work> nathanm: think this is an issue with the number of devices connected? I currently have 2 hubs (one in my apple keyboard), keyboard, mouse, and network adapter connected.
  25. [02:04:27] <jkridner|work> adding an MSC device fails.
  26. [02:12:39] * jrmuizel (n=jrmuizel@CPE001f5be79d0f-CM0017ee62f8b0.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) has joined #beagle

  34. [02:52:36] <nathanm> jkridner|work: Yeah, there is a known problem with MUSB multiplexing. Ajay has a patch for that. It's not in the official Open Embedded yet, but Koen's test kernels have included it for a week or two.
  35. [02:52:56] <jkridner> where do I pick up his test kernels?
  36. [02:52:59] <nathanm> jkridner|work: Basically, if you can unplug everything _but_ the MSC, and then the problem disappears, you know that's what it was.
  37. [02:53:55] <jkridner> yes, that worked.
  38. [02:54:15] <jkridner> I got an automounted /media/sda1.
  39. [02:54:40] <jkridner> plugging in the keyboard afterwords still works as well.
  40. [02:55:03] <nathanm> That sounds consistent with the bug.
  41. [02:55:06] <jkridner> I don't see the test builds in any of the usual suspect locations.
  42. [02:55:20] <nathanm> Here are Koen's latest (that I know of): http://dominion.thruhere.net/koen/OE/uImage-2.6.26+2.6.27-rc7+r14+gite1c49d7d22af768188e2a54c167ed79919361e55-r14-beagleboard.bin

  44. [02:55:32] <nathanm> One file is uImage, the other are the associated modules.

  55. [03:35:24] <hex4def6> Hi; I'm just starting out with the BeagleBoard, and one thing I'm not completely clear about is the difference between the Codesourcery toolchain, and the OpenEmbedded enviroment. Anybody help clarify this for me?
  56. [03:36:24] <ds2> one is a build environment, the other is a tool chain only
  57. [03:36:41] <hex4def6> so the OE enviro contains its own toolchain?
  58. [03:36:49] <ZeZu> one is probably entirely gnu and the other is partially proprietary as well isn't it?
  59. [03:36:52] <ds2> I think OE enviro uses the CS tool chain
  60. [03:37:07] <ds2> CS is based on GCC
  61. [03:39:13] <hex4def6> So, if I wanted to duplicate the Angstrom Demo, I'd begin with http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardAndOpenEmbeddedGit, get OE all setup, and then...?
  62. [03:39:15] <ZeZu> damn i meant to get another null modem cable
  63. [03:39:39] <ZeZu> and another rs232->db9 :|

  102. [06:55:34] <zuh> Managed to get it working without rounding down so much too, and using upscaling to fill the gaps. I should look into doing that for the generic code path too

  293. [15:18:00] <sakoman> jkridner|work: git checkout --track -b common origin/common
  294. [15:18:22] <sakoman> that will create a local clone of the common branch
  295. [15:18:22] <jkridner|work> can you break that down for me a bit?
  296. [15:18:43] <jkridner|work> do normal 'git pull' updates work?
  297. [15:18:53] <sakoman> yes
  298. [15:19:01] <sakoman> so first clone in the normal way
  299. [15:19:22] <sakoman> then create a local common branch with the above command
  300. [15:19:43] <jkridner|work> k, so --track tells git to always pull that branch information?

  302. [15:19:53] <jkridner|work> k.
  303. [15:19:59] <sakoman> then just do a git pull when you want an update

  368. [16:11:20] <kergoth> heh, i've been thinking about it for the past year or two :P motivation keeps wavering though

  375. [16:12:45] <denix> kergoth: I know the feeling. I blame it on me getting older... :)
  376. [16:12:58] <pbrook> Obviously you need to build your own kernel, and you don't get an installer.
  377. [16:13:06] <nabax> uhm
  378. [16:13:09] <nabax> any guide about it?
  379. [16:13:13] <koen> time for food
  380. [16:13:29] <nabax> i mean, downloading the iso and trying to dump it to the SD card would be a loss of time i guess, right?
  381. [16:14:03] <pbrook> nabax: debootstrap --foreign
  382. [16:14:33] <nabax> uhm
  383. [16:15:00] <pbrook> There's also some bits in the install manual about installing from an existing system. --foreign allows you to do all the downloading bits on a random debian machine, then finalize the install on the target.
  384. [16:15:09] <nabax> nice tool :D
  385. [16:15:21] <nabax> i didn't know it

  388. [16:15:55] <kergoth> heh
  389. [16:16:07] <nabax> pbrook: just got dbootstrap

  395. [16:19:02] <nabax> at least not in mine o_O'
  396. [16:21:38] <nabax> just did debootstrap -a armel etch usbdisk

  425. [17:04:47] <ds2> dirk2: it works as in it did not error out. but it had a lot of recent changes; to get it to compile I had to do the CONFIG_SYS_ conversions for the OMAP3 stuff
  426. [17:04:50] <sakoman> dirk2: correct -- master is a clone of the upstream repo and is updated hourly
  427. [17:05:21] <sakoman> I forze the common branch about a month ago when you began the upstream submission
  428. [17:05:25] <sakoman> froze :-)
  429. [17:05:35] <ds2> dirk2: the git pull origin common should have merged in the changes for omap3 on top of the master branch I take it?

  445. [17:09:30] <ds2> dirk2: I think the pull is wrong; you are doing a merge on to the latest code which is not buildable w/o some changes
  446. [17:09:40] <ds2> I made it build
  447. [17:09:45] <sakoman> ds2: you could do a similar command to get the overo branch, but it is broken at the moment due to the CONFIG stuff

  451. [17:11:41] <ds2> dirk2: based on what I hear from sakoman, yep.
  452. [17:12:28] <sakoman> ds2: you have to do 'git checkout --track -b overo origin/overo' to see the overo branch
  453. [17:12:52] <dirk2> ds2: Done
  454. [17:13:47] <ds2> sakoman: that doesn't work

  456. [17:14:03] <ds2> git checkout: updating paths is incompatible with switching branches/forcing

  558. [19:17:34] <zooko> geist: that is a good question. I am just investigating whether the ARM would be better in a few ways -- lower power, lower heat, possibly cheaper, etc.
  559. [19:17:43] <geist> early on it was a custom sparc chip + SATA
  560. [19:17:46] <zooko> It might turn out not to be better.
  561. [19:18:07] <geist> trouble is not too many arm socs have SATA support
  562. [19:18:21] <geist> i think there are a few custom ones for NAS style stuff
  563. [19:18:26] <zooko> So I'm looking at this: http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=103
  564. [19:18:28] <geist> but not sure they're sold individually
  565. [19:18:42] <geist> aside from buying a product and hacking it
  566. [19:19:16] <zooko> I'm looking for a price..
  567. [19:19:46] <geist> are you justlooking for a NAS solution or do you want to hack something yourself?
  568. [19:20:10] <suihkulokki> QNAP is hacker friendly
  569. [19:20:22] <zooko> I want to hack something for my company to use.
  570. [19:20:28] <geist> ahhh
  571. [19:20:30] <zooko> And the most important metric is TB/$.
  572. [19:20:36] <zooko> Or let's say $/TB.
  573. [19:20:47] <zooko> Currently we can hit about 500 in that metric, using PC x86 servers.
  574. [19:21:18] <geist> I doubt any of the nas solutions would be any cheaper, really
  575. [19:21:25] <geist> they tend to be a little pricey, IO
  576. [19:21:26] <geist> IMO
  577. [19:21:40] <geist> you're usually paying for the fact that it's a little box you never have to worry about
  578. [19:21:49] <geist> or super reliability, or super easy to set up, etc
  579. [19:21:50] <zooko> Yeah.
  580. [19:22:07] <zooko> It's interesting. Perhaps there's a market opportunity for someone.
