  76. [06:45:36] <paddy_melon> Hi guys
  77. [06:45:42] <paddy_melon> I want a pandora
  78. [06:45:49] <paddy_melon> but, that might be a while off
  79. [06:45:56] <paddy_melon> If I want to start deving
  80. [06:46:03] <paddy_melon> should I get a beagleboard?
  81. [06:46:14] <paddy_melon> Eg. Applications for beagleboard...
  82. [06:46:21] <paddy_melon> will they support pandora
  83. [06:46:50] <paddy_melon> anyone?
  84. [06:48:35] <paddy_melon> come on... Can U guys see this?
  85. [06:53:38] <wardred> It's either late or really early in a lot of places...
  86. [06:54:27] <wardred> Depends on your level of experience. If you're like me looking to make a 2d game, I'd simply start coding in SDL for a 800x480 screen.
  87. [06:55:27] <wardred> If you're looking to use the 3D accelleration and vector math unit, it may be wroth getting the Beagle.
  88. [06:58:41] <wardred> I have a beable board, and there's a few things to keep in mind. To get full utility out of it, it's nice to have the case, serial connector, usb hub, usb cable, power supply, video cable...
  89. [06:59:07] <wardred> All those extras add up, and while you can use it without most of them, it's really nice to have access to them.
  90. [06:59:32] <kblin> well, the video cable... oh, right, game development, never mind
  91. [06:59:33] <wardred> My spelling is getting way off...time for me to look at catching some ZZZzzzzssss.

  105. [07:53:37] <treta> <raster do you know what is the reason ?
  106. [07:53:48] <treta> ram failure ? gcc bug ?
  107. [07:54:01] <raster> gcc failure for sure
  108. [07:54:10] <treta> i dont think so.....
  109. [07:54:27] <raster> i do
  110. [07:54:34] <treta> i have a rev B4 and 2 rev C2
  111. [07:54:42] <treta> and in the B4 it never fails
  112. [07:54:49] <raster> i hve seen this on many arm systems
  113. [07:54:53] <raster> not jus2t bb
  114. [07:55:14] <raster> i have seen a native gcc segv/sigbus/etc. often enoughoutside of running on x86
  115. [07:55:41] <treta> hum.... ok.... but in the c2 rev if you compile using an nfs share i doesnt fails ever :S
  116. [07:56:17] <treta> but if you compile locally... kabum ! :(
  117. [07:57:12] <raster> you'll be exercising different codepaths
  118. [07:57:20] <raster> especially on the kernel side
  119. [07:57:27] <raster> and in userspace too as your latencies will differ
  120. [07:57:56] <treta> ok... but to the gcc it almost is the same thing....
  121. [07:58:57] <treta> i have 2 BB C3 an i must say they very unstable.... this my first arm11 system... until know i only have worked with arm9

  129. [08:10:17] <ldesnogu_> won't compile or won't run? :)
  130. [08:11:05] * raster gumbles about devices getting rediculously high res screens

  161. [09:45:11] <raster> out of beagleboards?
  162. [09:45:28] <mru> of course
  163. [09:45:37] <raster> hehehe
  164. [09:45:59] <raster> so u'll try and get mplayer to efficiently decode just a region of the video stream (and try and ignore the rest)
  165. [09:46:09] <raster> if only we didnt have mv's
  166. [09:46:16] <raster> :)
  167. [09:46:22] <mru> thats not possible
  168. [09:46:43] <mru> I have to preprocess the video
  169. [09:48:31] <mru> omapfbplay already has netsync
  170. [09:48:45] <raster> well it's possible with mjpeg
  171. [09:49:05] <raster> as you have no inter-spatial dependencies
  172. [09:49:20] <raster> speaking of that... i need to see if libjpeg will help me with that.
  173. [09:52:37] <raster> hmmm apparently no. that do be bad.
  174. [09:54:20] <mru> it's better to do separate encodings
  175. [09:54:34] <raster> in my case, i'm not going to have that luxury
  176. [09:55:10] <mru> you always have to parse the entire bitstream
  177. [09:55:18] <raster> yeah
  178. [09:55:29] <raster> better than decoding the whole bitstream tho
  179. [09:55:45] <raster> basically have 12mpixel photo
  180. [09:55:56] <raster> only have 8m ram. must display on vga screen
  181. [09:56:00] <raster> (zoom out, in and pan)
  182. [09:56:03] <raster> for example
  183. [09:56:19] <mru> ouch
  184. [09:56:24] <raster> thus there is need to 1. be able to decode at reduced res
  185. [09:56:28] <raster> (easy)
  186. [09:56:38] <raster> 2. be able to decode the image in regions and only have an active set
  187. [09:57:08] <raster> if i had choice on the incoming dataset i'd say "just pre-tile it into regions and zoom levels"
  188. [09:57:15] <raster> but i be not that lucky in this case
  189. [09:58:10] <mru> but 8M is so 1992...
  190. [09:58:20] <raster> well - i made that up
  191. [09:58:33] <raster> have actually 128m currently. 256 is around the corner
  192. [09:58:36] <raster> but i have to share that
  193. [09:58:47] <raster> and i have to handle potentially any-sized photo
  194. [10:04:11] <raster> methinks just smart use of libjpeg would work well enough with caching
  195. [10:04:22] <raster> it'd be rare to be at full size and scroll around
  196. [10:04:31] <raster> normally just view at zoomed out size and move on

  217. [10:24:40] <mru> that's what most of us do

  222. [10:26:12] <jule> Is the board expecting some SD card with a bootable image?

  225. [10:29:05] <jule> uppps i ve got a problem... Do I really need a serial cable?
  226. [10:29:55] <jule> I expect some kind of pre OS in the Board for at least getting USB support
  227. [10:30:02] <jule> exepcted
  228. [10:30:03] <qball> you bought the board withouth doing any investigation about how it owrks and what you need it to work
  229. [10:30:31] <jule> yes... and they say that I didnt need a serial cable
  230. [10:30:41] <jule> but its ok I can order one :)
  231. [10:31:09] <jule> I do already have 1 serial to USB cable will it work?
  232. [10:31:47] <mru> you don't need a serial cable... if you're content just watching the dog
  233. [10:32:47] <jule> well but I can copy an image to the SD card, then get linux loaded and then connect via telnet... right?'
  234. [10:33:23] <jule> By default, it searchs for any bootable SD card right?
  235. [10:51:07] <mrc_001> jule: a suggestion (one of the many ways you could do it): connect a usb hub with external power supply and an usb to ethernet adapter. put the beagleboard angstrom demo ( http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/beagleboard-demo-image-available ) onto the SD card as instructed, and if you did everything correctly, the OS should boot up and you should be able to log in via SSH and VNC.
  236. [10:51:29] <mrc_001> this method worked for me without using a serial cable
  237. [10:52:23] <mru> but when something goes wrong, the serial cable is a must
  238. [10:54:58] <jule> mru i dont have usb to ethernet adapter, instead I have one HDMI to HDMI cable and a HDMI TV
  239. [10:55:28] <jule> if I install the SD imgage and then the keyboard via usb, i will have control over the thing right?
  240. [10:55:32] <mru> that's hardly a substitute...
  241. [10:55:55] <jule> well the second phase is to configure some wifi connection
  242. [10:56:13] <jule> that will do the thing i think right?
  243. [10:57:13] <mru> yes, until you need to talk to the boot loader for whatever reason
  244. [11:00:48] <jule> yes I undesrtand.. the serial is a must... but can I talk to the loader via serial over usb cable?

  410. [17:38:04] <FJ_Sanchez> Mmmm, sure!
  411. [17:38:15] <FJ_Sanchez> I got timed out msg
  412. [17:38:49] <djlewis> I am not even thru the setup in this latest BB Demo image and I have USB coming and going.
  413. [17:40:57] <djlewis> I get a Mount Error popup mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/mmcblk0p1
  414. [17:41:08] <djlewis> but I have a GUI
  415. [17:41:22] <adj> i had that -100 error with zd1211 wifi. I randomly also got -2, which afaik means file not found
  416. [17:42:13] <adj> my guess is that it has something to do with udev
  417. [17:42:45] <FJ_Sanchez> adj, it's the same for me
  418. [17:42:51] <FJ_Sanchez> But now it's working
  419. [17:42:55] <FJ_Sanchez> Just unplug and plug again
  420. [17:43:17] <adj> and next time it will not work, i assume?
  421. [17:43:19] <djlewis> I'm dropping this latest BB demo, too much to fight right now.
  422. [17:43:27] <FJ_Sanchez> But I get really bad signal
  423. [17:43:38] <FJ_Sanchez> adj it works that way for me..
  424. [17:43:42] <djlewis> signal is not fs related
  425. [17:43:56] <FJ_Sanchez> I know...
  426. [17:44:06] <adj> strangly enough my wifi works 100% (well, almoust) with my own rootfs and older kernel
  427. [17:44:13] <djlewis> does your wifi have a ext antenna?
  428. [17:44:19] <FJ_Sanchez> no...

  434. [17:45:29] <djlewis> With ones with ext antenna.
  435. [17:45:47] <FJ_Sanchez> now I get Quality=100/100 Signal level:61/100
  436. [17:45:52] <FJ_Sanchez> It's wrong...
  437. [17:45:55] <djlewis> Another fix is a 3 - 5 ' usb extension cable and stick the thumb stick on the wall

  443. [17:50:09] <FJ_Sanchez> I cannot
  444. [17:50:21] <djlewis> you cant get signal readings if iwconfig shows no assoc.
  445. [17:50:24] <FJ_Sanchez> I've unpluged USB dongle
  446. [17:50:27] <FJ_Sanchez> But it's still listed

  650. [20:11:52] <adj> yep
  651. [20:12:12] <Christos_N> hmm...
  652. [20:14:12] <Christos_N> I've seen something as 'bitbake <image> -c menuconfig' in another distro

  659. [20:16:26] <FJ_Sanchez> It already has dropbear
  660. [20:16:27] <adj> and all distros don't have similar stages
  661. [20:17:37] <Christos_N> but what you say is that I'll go into the kernel folder, and the make menuconfig will work as it supposed to, then bitbake will just make the kernel with the new menuconfig set params.
  662. [20:18:35] <adj> yes, but remember to use -f -c compile after doing some changes
  663. [20:19:38] <adj> that will execute the compile stage and all the rest stages (deploy and whatever) will be executed by the next 'bitbake virtual/kernel'
  664. [20:20:43] <djlewis> FJ_Sanchez: I think you have to fully remove dropbear for openssh. I have used both.

  775. [23:02:41] <_MattE> Evening all! I've a (probably stupid && hopefully quick) question about linux-omap-2.6 git; I'm trying to get the head of its omap-2.6.30 branch going and am finding it stiffing it at "Calibrating delay loop..." when using either my own config (derived from the angstrom kernel 2.6.29 config) or the omap3_beagle_defconfig. Has anyone got this running?
  776. [23:09:16] <FJ_Sanchez> I've angstrom installed, and now I want to develop a kernel device driver, where should I download the kernel (angstrom 2.6.29-r37-beagleboard) source?
  777. [23:10:54] <_MattE> You could use the omap-2.6.29 branch in linux-omap-2.6 git ;-) (which DOES run fine w/ Angstrom)
  778. [23:11:57] <FJ_Sanchez> So, the kernel I'm running has no patches?
  779. [23:17:33] <_MattE> I don't know- I wasn't able to (within a short time) find any source for the running kernel (if it has patches I'm sure they're buried inside the OE build). Just that that omap branch works fairly well (didn't try audio nor GLES stuff) it seems
