certainly... long legs, springy backbone... ;)

as I said to them, I'll listen to anyone who talks to me
- [02:08:56] <mru>
qualcomm etc aren't talking...

I am sure you can get them talking... just announce you will be providing an open source CDMA impleementation ;)
- [02:09:34] <mru>
ARM are talking
- [02:09:45] <mru>
but in chip terms, they're a subset of TI ;-)

hello
- [03:35:43] <tahsin>
can anyone help me with buid_deb.sh to work from lunchpad
- [03:37:13] <rcn-ee>
tahsin, what problem are you having with it?
- [03:38:37] <tahsin>
i am geting few /bin/sh: line0: [: -gt: unary operator expected
- [03:38:53] <tahsin>
and in the end i am getting dpkg-gencontrol: error: package linux-image-2.6.29-x45.2 not in control info
- [03:38:55] <tahsin>
and it fails
- [03:39:05] <tahsin>
but the other scripts works fine
- [03:40:14] <tahsin>
as for /bin/sh: line0: [: -gt: unary operator expected < there are more like that but its '-lt, -eq'.... etc....
- [03:40:27] <rcn-ee>
tahsin, the first is a bashism, (i should run test that one), the second is a make-kpkg bug. (ran into that with my builder last week) either force an upgrade to squeeze's make-kpkg or use "make deb-pkg" in 2.6.32's..
- [03:41:41] <tahsin>
well i my bin/sh is linked to bash
- [03:42:06] <rcn-ee>
which repo was it, 2.6-?
- [03:42:29] <tahsin>
my kernel? or launchpad?
- [03:43:10] <rcn-ee>
the launchpad one, i think all the build_deb's are simliar, but i might have modified one already...
- [03:43:52] <tahsin>
2.6.29
- [03:44:09] <tahsin>
i have have the 2.6.31 which does the same thing
- [03:44:22] <tahsin>
also have*
- [03:49:29] * GPSFan (n=kenm@64.92.145.112) Quit ("Ex-Chat")
- [03:51:36] <rcn-ee>
tahsin, took a little bit, (i need more beagles), but for reference what host are you using?
- [03:52:30] <tahsin>
i am using ubuntu
- [03:52:59] <tahsin>
well take your time.. thanks for helping though
- [03:54:24] <tahsin>
the main reason i am recompiling is because i want to use the expantion as standard gpios so i enabled the omap-mux switch
- [03:54:33] * raster (n=raster@enlightenment/developer/raster) has joined #beagle
- [03:55:07] <tahsin>
and i have uimage compiled fine and it works
- [03:56:13] <rcn-ee>
tahsin, yeah the dpkg-gencontrol you'll have to use squeeze's package, ran into that with my chroot's.. version >= kernel-package_12.021_all.deb
- [03:57:04] <tahsin>
where can i find that?
- [03:57:18] <rcn-ee>
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/k/kernel-package/kernel-package_12.021_all.deb
- [03:57:52] <rcn-ee>
but give me a week or two, all the launchpad's should be converted to "make deb-pkg"
- [03:58:25] <tahsin>
i see
- [03:58:37] <rcn-ee>
debuild would be better, but i'm not a deb expert yet... ;)
- [03:58:43] <tahsin>
same here
- [03:58:50] <tahsin>
this is the first time iever ran into thise problem
- [03:58:56] <tahsin>
its my first cross compile
- [03:59:26] <tahsin>
i think i compiled the kernel 10 times today
- [04:00:14] <raster>
aaah cross-compiling
- [04:00:15] <raster>
the joys
- [04:00:44] <tahsin>
lol yes.. i tried doing it in the beagle.. lol took 1 day..
- [04:00:54] <rcn-ee>
that's a good start... hopefully my scripts make things easier.. it'd stick with 2.6-dev for the moment, 2.6-stable's going to get obsoleted pretty quick..
- [04:01:08] * cody_ (n=cody@dslb-084-056-101-224.pools.arcor-ip.net) has joined #beagle
- [04:01:32] <rcn-ee>
it's not that bad... my beagle takes 4-6 hours to build one linux-image*.deb file you see on rcn-ee.net..
- [04:01:42] <raster>
tahsin: oh hell no. native compiling on device is not for those without a small mountain of patience
- [04:02:26] <raster>
cross-compiling is fast... but it coems with joy of its own
- [04:02:30] <tahsin>
haha well i was testing how long it will last the battery pack i made for it
- [04:02:53] <rcn-ee>
good test, sure keeps the core at 100%..
- [04:03:09] <tahsin>
yes it does...
- [04:03:24] <tahsin>
well mine is oc'ed to 600mhz
- [04:03:33] <rcn-ee>
another fun one, is the gcc-testsuite...
- [04:03:45] <tahsin>
hmm what is that?
- [04:04:35] <rcn-ee>
basicly build gcc from source, then run a verification testsetup, depending on what you enable it can keep the beagle busy 18-36 hours...
- [04:05:15] <tahsin>
......... it takes my quad core to compile 2 hrs to compile for the beagle in VM
- [04:05:18] <tahsin>
i pass on that
- [04:06:21] <tahsin>
sorry for the grammer mistakes i am making... i am beat from this compiling... cant think anymore
- [04:07:41] <tahsin>
<rcn-ee> < -- you are amazing!
- [04:09:18] <rcn-ee>
thanks! kernel-package worked for you? I really don't know why that all of sudden needed, i've been building 2.6.29 for awhile now, but that error just poped up last month..
- [04:10:20] <tahsin>
well i am having no errors yet.. not even those '-lt'.. its almost finished... tho
- [04:10:34] <tahsin>
hmm well your script is the only one that actually did something
- [04:10:56] <tahsin>
others i have read either werent clear or didnt work at all
- [04:12:20] <rcn-ee>
ugh, yeah the make_kpkg in 2.6.29 was my first go, yuck... KERNEL dir should have been rm-'d..
- [04:12:48] <tahsin>
yea
- [04:13:23] <rcn-ee>
i'll push a couple changes tonight... Basicly these scripts i use to develop, 30mins to hack on an x86, 6 hours on an arm, so they have to work. ;)
- [04:13:42] <tahsin>
well you are doing amazing job
- [04:15:06] <rcn-ee>
really wish my sheevaplug was working, it's got more umpth for these scripts... Give it time tahsin, it'll come natural after awhile..
- [04:15:23] <tahsin>
haha
- [04:16:29] <tahsin>
well i am getting hang of this cross compiling
- [04:17:24] * djlewis (n=djlewis@75.15.65.85) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
- [04:18:09] <tahsin>
how many beagle do you have?
- [04:18:25] <rcn-ee>
still running? or grand total?
- [04:18:48] <tahsin>
hah both
- [04:19:13] <raster>
tahsin: btwe. 600 isnt oc'ing - thats the clocked rate it can actually handle.
- [04:19:26] <raster>
tahsin: u should be able to play with higher clicks - 700, 800 maybe
- [04:20:09] <tahsin>
<raster> well i dont know tho go beyond that.. like the code for it..
- [04:20:12] <rcn-ee>
2 running 24/7, with a hot spare, 2 inoperable, and 1 at work... ;)
- [04:20:20] * cody (n=cody@dslb-084-056-082-029.pools.arcor-ip.net) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
- [04:20:47] <tahsin>
rcn-ee> nice.. i am just borrowing one from my professor
- [04:20:50] <raster>
tahsin: as i said. 600 is the blessed clockrate. not an overclocked state
- [04:20:53] <raster>
no ocing there
- [04:21:10] <raster>
700, 800... thqats ocing
- [04:22:03] <tahsin>
raster> i see.. well the thing is i dont know how to go beyond 600 because thats all my prof gave the code to
- [04:22:31] <raster>
sure
- [04:22:35] <raster>
i havent tried either
- [04:22:38] <raster>
just as an example
- [04:22:55] <raster>
the samsung s3c64310 is rated for 667mhz
- [04:23:07] <raster>
u will find many running at 400, 532 etcx. mhz - to save power and heat
- [04:23:13] <raster>
but... i have another 6401 at 800mhz here
- [04:23:16] <ds2>
s3c64310?
- [04:23:22] <raster>
because.. it actually can be overclocked without problems
- [04:23:25] <tahsin>
raster> yea i am aware of they can go that fast but its hard to find someone who done it
- [04:23:33] <ds2>
what core isthe 64310?
- [04:23:37] <raster>
it was just specced very conservatively
- [04:23:46] <raster>
ds2: err s3c6410
- [04:23:52] <ds2>
oh
- [04:24:07] <raster>
armv6
- [04:24:22] <tahsin>
and this is my first arm board
- [04:24:31] <ds2>
seem to recall they also have a cortex in the works?
- [04:24:45] <raster>
ds2: already out and kicking
- [04:24:50] * soman (n=somnath@118.102.130.6) has joined #beagle
- [04:24:55] <ds2>
what pn?
- [04:24:55] <tahsin>
the beagle has cortex
- [04:25:07] <raster>
ds2: c110/c110 (the iphone 3gs uses samsungs c110 i believe
- [04:25:12] <raster>
s5pc110
- [04:25:37] <raster>
rated for 800mhz (but quietly known to clock at 1ghz if u want)
- [04:25:43] <raster>
also has an sgx ala bb
- [04:25:45] <ds2>
is that catalog?
- [04:26:01] <raster>
no dsp - instead fixed function hw - jpeg, h263/4 decode etc.
- [04:26:11] <raster>
i understand it is rated to do 1080p playback
- [04:26:16] <ds2>
sounds more like a davinci
- [04:26:27] <raster>
umm i understand its the 25pc110 for the part number/nam,e
- [04:26:34] <raster>
beyond that - not sure what other names it may have
- [04:26:46] <raster>
(or the short form - c110 is what many seem to call it)
- [04:26:48] <ds2>
hmmm
- [04:27:14] <raster>
its a fast little bugger
- [04:27:22] <raster>
it does pip the omap3
- [04:27:25] <raster>
by a good margin
- [04:27:36] <raster>
at least in the benchmarks i saw by about 50%
- [04:28:07] <raster>
(from memory - vs 600mhz omap3430)
- [04:28:29] <raster>
i think it has higher clocked memory - so thats probably mostly why (other than 800 vs 600mhz)
- [04:28:36] <tahsin>
not bad
- [04:28:50] <raster>
better memory always helps my benchmarks :)
- [04:28:54] <tahsin>
oh yes
- [04:29:09] <raster>
in a recent benchmark done on a c110
- [04:29:22] <raster>
it clocks in at 79.88
- [04:29:45] <tahsin>
wow
- [04:30:21] <raster>
oh thats not so amazing.. its what that is relative to
- [04:30:35] <tahsin>
i know
- [04:30:35] <raster>
thats just an averafe fps rating through all the tests
- [04:30:44] <raster>
just doing an updated run on my desktop
- [04:30:54] <raster>
but i think that should clokc in about 1/.10th the speed of my desktop
- [04:31:00] <tahsin>
so since we are talking about clock speed... do you know where i can get info on how the clocking code works?
- [04:31:00] <raster>
and thats a 2ghz core2
- [04:31:02] <raster>
err 3ghz
- [04:31:28] <ds2>
raster: does your bench mark look at power usage at all?
- [04:32:02] <raster>
ds2: nup. as 1. dont have anything to really measure it
- [04:32:09] <raster>
2. "someone elses problem" :)
- [04:32:15] <raster>
500.30
- [04:32:16] <ds2>
I see.
- [04:32:41] <raster>
ooh oops
- [04:32:49] <raster>
i had cpu on "ondemand
- [04:32:50] <raster>
redo
- [04:33:02] <ds2>
heh
- [04:33:32] <raster>
core 2 duo, 3ghz, 4m l2, and it's using mmx+sse as well.
- [04:33:45] <tahsin>
<rcn-ee> it successfully compiled and the .deb is there... thanks!!!
- [04:33:50] <raster>
the c110 is not using any accelerated neon asm
- [04:33:54] <raster>
(worth talking about)
- [04:33:58] <ds2>
isn'tthat a 20-30W monster?
- [04:34:16] <tahsin>
lol mine is 102W
- [04:34:18] <raster>
the c110 or core2?
- [04:34:22] <ds2>
core2
- [04:34:30] <raster>
oh the core2 will chew power
- [04:34:43] <raster>
i dont even "bother" worrying about it
- [04:34:49] <ds2>
hah
- [04:35:02] <ds2>
I'd eliminate it on the basis of that
- [04:35:25] <raster>
i'm not concerned about power - concerned about "if i wrote something to do X on desktop - and its smooth/nice there... how nice will it be on the target?"
- [04:35:44] <ds2>
different interests I see
- [04:35:47] <raster>
594.78 vs 79.88
- [04:36:16] <raster>
so 7.45 times faster

thats not bad at all
- [04:36:30] <raster>
my desktop is only 7.5 times faster or so
- [04:36:41] <rcn-ee>
tahsin, cool, and this was on an x86 host? the CC changed to angstrom's gcc was enough?
- [04:36:55] <raster>
yeah - my interests are the "user experience" on the screen
- [04:37:08] <raster>
how smooth is it, how many effects can i get away with before it "chugs" etc.
- [04:37:14] <raster>
on a desktop i can get away with blue murder
- [04:37:25] <ds2>
that's tertary, IMO... how long will it run and high small can it be
- [04:37:47] <raster>
i dont have any say in that dept
- [04:37:55] <raster>
that comes pre-designed/built
- [04:38:05] <raster>
so.. i just want to get the most out of it
- [04:38:36] <raster>
also it spends most of its time asleep or idle - so its only useful "When doing something"

- [04:39:31] <tahsin>
rcn-ee> yes i just changed the CC to the arm tool chain and cross compile also to the arm tool chain link
- [04:39:32] <raster>
problem is - users. i mean consumers. they want "nice"
- [04:39:44] <raster>
hell americans have been driving suv's and buyoing them by the boatload for many years
- [04:39:51] <raster>
o interest in efficiency
- [04:40:09] <raster>
people dont choose a phone on "talk time + standby time" numbers
- [04:40:21] <ds2>
depends on which group... there are folks who consider battery life more important as they do use it true mobile mode
- [04:40:23] <tahsin>
rcn-ee> i will run also in the angstrom and see
- [04:40:25] <raster>
they choose the one that they can afford, and makes them go "goooh aaaah yum"
- [04:40:28] <raster>
:)
- [04:40:39] <raster>
ds2: there are. but they are a minority
- [04:40:46] <ds2>
well, difference between toys and real tools :D
- [04:41:12] <raster>
not really. depends what you do.
- [04:41:19] <raster>
and you dont even know the numbers?
- [04:41:27] <raster>
maybe its 8hrs vs 7.5hrs?
- [04:41:33] <raster>
no numbers.
- [04:41:37] <raster>
so its speculation. :)
- [04:41:44] <rcn-ee>
tahsin, i actually never tried to cross build a *.deb.... Assumed changing CC would work, i trust angstrom's tool chain a lot more then that other one..
- [04:43:00] <tahsin>
rcn-ee> well this is the only tool chain i have in this VM but my main one is the angstorm... but so far it had no errors

i think i had this once too but with angstrom, seem to recall this happens because real time clock was build into the kernel
- [06:34:05] <jake_>
anybody there??
- [06:34:19] <eFfeM>
not so impatient, it is 7.30 am here
- [06:34:40] <eFfeM>
anyway when I rebuild the kernel with rtc as module the problem was gone
- [06:34:50] <eFfeM>
ofc this was with openembedded, not with ubuntu
- [06:35:13] <jake_>
u got the same problem?

how u solved .. make it a bit more clear
- [06:36:56] <eFfeM>
i use openembedded kernel, I rebuild it and in the kernel config instead of saying CONFIG_RTC=y (or whatever the name is) I said CONFIG_RTC=m
- [06:37:04] <eFfeM>
recompiled and reinstalled kernel and bingo
- [06:37:46] <eFfeM>
not sure if that it the same issue with ubuntu, i don't even know where your ubuntu is from, afaik there is no official beagle kernel for ubuntu
- [06:37:52] <jake_>
any link for de kernel?
- [06:38:01] <eFfeM>
guess you need to ask where you got this kernel from

- [11:45:59] <limp>
I???ve installed the arm-none-eabi-gcc toolchain and I am trying to load a simple program on beagleboard. I created a flashing led program and tried from U-boot to load it (through serial) in a memory location (0x8e0000000) and execute it with go command but nothing happened.
- [11:46:27] <limp>
Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

- [12:03:13] <av500>

- [15:19:05] <modelvincent>
hello, i have a problem with bootloader
- [15:19:14] <rcn-ee>
jean85, what is your rootstock line:
- [15:19:39] <rcn-ee>
jean85, or did you download the minimal rootfs?
- [15:19:47] <jean85>
can u make it specific?
- [15:20:08] <modelvincent>
after a bad nand update, my beagle board only display 40V with some bad character on serial port, even if i press the user button, and nothing appear, with or MMC card inserted
- [15:20:54] <rcn-ee>
jean85, the vmlinuz is only created if you issue a "--kernel-image some.deb" to rootstock...
- [15:21:04] <jean85>
sudo ./rootstock --fqdn beagleboard --login ubuntu --password temppwd --imagesize 2G --seed xfce4,gdm --dist jaunty --serial ttyS2 --kernel-image http://rcn-ee.net/deb/kernel/beagle/jaunty/v2.6.29-58cf2f1-oer44.1/linux-image-2.6.29-oer44.1_1.0jaunty_armel.deb
- [15:22:17] <jean85>
so how i will give it rootstock???
- [15:22:24] <jean85>
so how i will give it to rootstock???
- [15:22:29] <rcn-ee>
jean85, that will create two files, armel-rootfs*.tgz and a vmlinuz..
- [15:22:52] <jean85>
but am getting only armel-rootfs.tgz
- [15:23:12] <rcn-ee>

i think br assumes external tc is also external libc
- [21:18:34] <huichen>
you mean I shouldn't use external tc at all?

hey, I just bought a beagleboard. when i hook it up to the monitor right out of the box, should it display anything other than the splash screen?
- [22:15:08] <Guest19603>
no...
- [22:16:33] <tingyo>
ahh ok. I tried going through the diagnostics but it doesn't seem to do anything other than the splash screen and then it seems to kind of freeze before the while splash screen fades out
