anyone familair with the always innovating tablet PC?
- [00:39:29] <ioi8>
im trying to find if anyone has added internal GPS to the tablet unit
- [00:40:05] <jkridner|work>
ioi8: there is a #touchbook channel.
- [00:40:16] <jkridner|work>
I've played with one, but never tried to add a GPS.
- [00:40:18] <ioi8>
thanks
- [00:40:31] <jkridner|work>
GPS devices typically just use serial over USB, which would be supported in the kernel...
- [00:40:37] <jkridner|work>
but you'd need app-layer support.
- [00:40:45] <ioi8>
thats not a problem
- [00:41:03] <ioi8>
im just wondering how much room is inside to add internal GPS
- [00:41:19] <jkridner|work>
oh, there's quite a bit of room.
- [00:41:52] <ioi8>
im trying to make a glorified garmin
- [00:41:55] <jkridner|work>
though, I haven't see a GPS small enough, come to think of it. but, the USB GPS devices I've seen are a few generations old.
- [00:42:22] <ioi8>
is there a MIC on the tablet?
- [00:42:31] <jkridner|work>
If you add Android 2.0, you could get pretty close, but I don't think you could get the Google apps.
- [00:43:03] <jkridner|work>
that's probably easy to look up on their website.
- [00:44:13] <ds2>
how small of a GPS do you want?
- [00:44:18] <ioi8>
im actually working with some people... we are writing a car computer OS and front-end
- [00:44:35] <ioi8>
small enough to add internally to the tablet
- [00:44:44] <ds2>
is about 0.5"x1" small enough? :D
- [00:45:00] <ioi8>
i dunno... i dont have a touchbook
- [00:45:02] <ds2>
or an off the shelf 1"x1" module + a 0.25x0.375 chip
- [00:45:05] <ds2>
or ... :D
- [00:47:00] <ioi8>
ds2... you got links to this HW?
- [00:48:31] <ds2>
check the usual GPS mfg sites
- [00:49:04] <ds2>
think pretty much all of them offer stuff in that range
- [00:50:25] <ioi8>
if its anything like the EEE, putting GPS inside will result in bad signal due to materials...
- [00:50:49] <ds2>
you can tweak the antenna
- [00:51:08] <ds2>
some antennas are design to have plastic on top of it and won't work well w/o it; others are not
- [00:51:17] <ioi8>
ok
- [00:51:50] <ioi8>
btw... if you guys are interested in linux car computers... we got a channel at #linuxice

what does your car computer do?
- [01:01:33] <ioi8>
everything a head unit does + more
- [01:02:01] <ioi8>
MP3, videos, navigation, external control, integration with webservices
- [01:03:23] <wurks>
cool! I plan to build something similar with a C64 for my car (I LOVE C64 music), despite the mp3, the videos, navigation, external control and the webservices stuff ;)
- [01:05:03] <ioi8>
were on mp3car.com
- [01:05:14] <ioi8>
i would check that website for anything relating to car computers

i need some help... i get the error "Wrong Image Format for bootm command" "ERROR: can't get kernel image!"
- [02:45:09] <mru>
what did you try to boot?
- [02:45:53] <www_>
i tried to setup Automatic Boot and
- [02:46:25] <www_>
this happened... it was alright with boot from mmc before...i was booting the latest angstrom image
- [02:47:27] <rtennill1>
i usually see that when i'm trying to bootm from the wrong address
- [02:47:59] <www_>
eventually i changed the loader from ----> Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 (Feb 19 2009 - 12:01:24) to Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 (Aug 8 2008 - 16:59:05)
- [02:49:13] <www_>
I blindly followed the section "Setting Automatic Boot"in http://code.google.com/p/beagleboard/wiki/HowToGetAngstromRunning .....how can i revert it back....
- [02:49:23] <rcn-ee>
that's almost a downgrade, atleast the version is the same...
- [02:49:38] <www_>
yeah
- [02:50:15] <www_>
i used the following instrn: setenv bootargs 'console=ttyS2,115200n8 console=tty0 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype=ext3 rootwait omapfb.video_mode=1024x768MR-16@60'
- [02:50:42] <www_>
setenv bootcmd 'mmcinit; fatload mmc 0 0x80300000 uImage; bootm 0x80300000'
- [02:50:55] <www_>
saveenv
- [02:51:21] <www_>
@mru...is there any way i can get back bb to previous state?
- [02:51:24] <rcn-ee>
well, first make sure 'mmcinit' is correct, mid 2009 it was changed to 'mmc init'.. also verify you actually have a uImage vs uimage...
- [02:51:49] <www_>
i typed mmc init
- [02:51:59] <www_>
i have uImage
- [02:52:03] <www_>
in my sd card
- [02:52:20] <rcn-ee>
well your bootcmd has mmcinit... (no space)
- [02:53:04] <www_>
wheni do OMAP3 beagleboard.org # mmcinit , i getunknown command
- [02:53:09] <www_>
error
- [02:53:34] <rcn-ee>
wuulong, that's what i mean, you posted you used: setenv bootcmd 'mmcinit;.... change it to 'mmc init'....
- [02:53:41] <rcn-ee>
sorry, meant www_
- [02:57:03] <www_>
@rcn-ee thanx a lot...that worked... i have some doubts regarding using testing svideo in angstrom demo...
- [02:58:11] <www_>
i used a earlier version of angstrom image before with just a single partision in SD card and i could open the svideo port by typing svideo
- [02:58:21] <rcn-ee>
www_, it should work just fine, with the correct bootargs, however nobody ever really uses it..
- [02:59:38] <www_>
i wanted to play some videos on my tv connected thru svideo ... but when i type svideo i get error -sh : svideo not found
- [02:59:46] <www_>
wat could be the reason?
- [03:01:39] <rcn-ee>
www_, the docs for Angstrom's 2.6.29 and later is here: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/tmlind/linux-omap-2.6.git;a=blob;f=Documentation/arm/OMAP/DSS;h=0af0e9eed5d6c1281433b4c0bc26f7c6577fe8a6;hb=c3ca341ea39353273291faea549bf2a673335e36
- [03:02:20] <rcn-ee>
www_, key is omapfb.mode=<display>:<mode>[,...] where display would be 'pal' or 'ntsc'...
- [03:04:09] <www_>
am not pretty sure, how to use it...'cos am new to embedded systems and linux.... anyways thanx for the help

I'm about 10 minutes into my first dive into the Beagleboard. I'm looking to install a basic Linux system in order to play a movie in a loop on a small LCD attached to the S-video port. I also need to suppress all boot messages and install a custom boot splash screen. I prefer to work with Ubuntu, since that's what I'm most familiar with. Any pointers?

Good morning all, I'm having a few OE compilation problems (read:'special moments') and wondered if any of you kind people could point me in the right direction...
- [09:29:59] <memento_mori>

- [09:30:15] <memento_mori>
I've tried searching google but I'm having problems find anything of much use, I've also tried getting OE from git again (been though all the config steps outlined in the 'Building ?ngstr?m' page from angstrom-distribution.org) and I've tried bitbaking ncurses-native by itself first

folks...is dvi-hdcp same as dvi-d ? i plan on getting the aoc f19 for the board...it has a dvi-hdcp port...
- [18:09:22] <mru>
hdcp is the encryption optionally used over hdmi
- [18:09:39] <mru>
the beagle can drive any monitor with a dvi-d or hdmi input
- [18:11:15] <Dogburt>
Alcy, they are in India and I am in USA. They dont take CCards either if I wanted to pay shipping... Any other thoughts? What is the reason for a gap out in supply?
- [18:11:38] <alcy>
cool....any thing else I need to take care of before buying the lcd ...? its resolution is 1366 x768 @ 60Hz....
- [18:13:44] <alcy>
@Dogburt....there was a post on facebook that suggested these folks might get boards from IDA...and then re-distribute....

- [18:16:26] <mru>
they get a steady supply of boards
- [18:17:00] <mru>
for some reason their systems don't cope with the way the boards are ordered and delievered
