Hi, I'm running the Angstrom-Cloud9-IDE-eglibc-ipk-v2012.02-core-beaglebone-2012.02.14.img and opkg update; opkg upgrade keeps blowing up in my face. I have tried amount /tmp. Is there any other tricks I should be trying? Is there another base image that is more useful? I don't particularly want or need the cloud 9 stuff.

sounds sensible
- [14:30:25] <kvarley>
dm8tbr: Is that the optimum rate? Does ampage really matter? I know that the typical usage of the board is 750mA but then with powered usb devices it'll ramp up quickly. Whats the max ampage that would be considered save to run the board on?

you don't understand i2c
- [16:20:46] <jacekowski>
data is divided into registers
- [16:21:04] <jacekowski>
each i2c has one or more registers you can read/write to
- [16:21:34] <jacekowski>
all you have to do from your program is do 2 ioctls to read stuff
- [16:25:34] <nobody_>
on that page is written .. int addr = 0b00101001; // The I2C address of the ADC and then as You say ioctl .. if (ioctl(file,I2C_SLAVE,addr) < 0). Integer addr is addres of slave I2C device, not register internal register of this device

let the build system know you're compiling on arm instead of x86 somehow
- [18:41:12] <kiilo>
howto?
- [18:41:26] <jay6981>
you'd probably have to ask the authors that

yep

Hello beagle people! I have a question, that will undoubtedly, over the next month, lead to more! My kids and I have been inspired to build a near-space balloon - I think it's a great project for them and a fun tinker-project for me between exams. My first question is this: Is beagle board a good platform for me to send up with said balloon to record all kinds of weather data?
- [22:49:29] <MarkSoric>
Sorry if that's a naive question - I have no experience whatsoever :D

koen: let's not judge, zeros are bits too!
- [23:12:48] <mru>
if you cut a zero in half, you get two ones (slightly bent, but still clearly ones)
- [23:13:34] <MarkSoric>
mru: I saw that as well - just wondering on what the differences between using arduino vs beagle board would be...
- [23:14:11] <mru>
MarkSoric: I don't think either of them is rated for such environments
- [23:14:47] <MarkSoric>
Based on temp/pressure, eh? I think temp is ok - heating packs. Worried about the pressure.
- [23:14:57] <mru>
why would pressure matter?
- [23:15:01] <russell-->
MarkSoric: weight is probably a factor to consider
- [23:15:05] <mru>
it doesn't run on steam
- [23:15:11] <russell-->
and what you want to record
- [23:15:19] <mru>
temperature is more of a worry

without atmosphere the silicon could have temperature gradient issues
- [23:21:12] <mru>
heat transfer efficiency to the air obviously drops with pressure
- [23:21:43] <mru>
but the beagle doesn't run even warm at normal pressure and temperature
- [23:22:05] <mru>
so with the low ambient temps up there, it ought to still work, at least if you put a heatsink on it
