Hello. I have a problem booting the demo images, and wondered if anyone has experienced the same
- [07:32:24] * zer4tul (~zer4tul@unaffiliated/zer4tul) has joined #beagle
- [07:33:16] <kristrev>
I have the Beaglebone rev. 5 and no matter which Debian demo image I try, the boot always stops at "Using makefile-style concurrent boot in runlevel S"
- [07:33:50] <kristrev>
I have tried several different memory cards, including reformatting the one that came with the board, so I dont think that should be the problem
- [07:34:42] <kristrev>
the only information I get from the boot log is that startpar has hung for 120 sec
- [07:35:19] <av500>
maybe ask the debian people?
- [07:35:38] <LetoThe2nd>
or rather, don't tell us "no matter what", tell us exactly what you use.
- [07:35:46] <av500>
as far as I know, beagleboard.org does not provide debian based demo images
- [07:35:53] <kristrev>
Ok
- [07:35:54] <LetoThe2nd>

- [07:36:16] <kristrev>
I use the latest debian demo image from rcn-ee, the one from 29th March
- [07:36:33] <LetoThe2nd>
aholler: nope, according to his guide you bild a patched one.
- [07:36:50] <kristrev>
or, the demo images are from the elinux-wiki
- [07:37:23] <kristrev>
I dont think it is a Debian-problem, as the equivalent Debian x86 version runs perfectly on my desktop

That there is something when combining the debian demo image and my beaglebone/memory card that goes wrong
- [07:39:16] <kristrev>
if I use the demo image on my beagleboard on the same memory card (with the correct bootloader), it also works

Miklos: Volts is the one to be more careful about, yes. The board will typically draw 750mA of current but I read in the specification it can take up to 3Amps of load. I bought a worldwide PSU that does 5v DC with up to 3 Amps of current. Had no probems.

hi, since a few weeks I am trying the following on a BBxM: capture an image from a LI-5M03 board (mt9p031 sensor) and show it on a dvi monitor. The resolution has to be at least XGA @ 25fps with a minimal delay. Has someone ever done that? The maximum I can get is VGA @ 15fps with using mplayer

It all depends on what the DSP istruction set is. One designed to do video decoding is not necessarily going to be good at FFT operations
- [20:40:48] <_av500_>
nkh: read the c6 compiler documentation
- [20:41:04] <_av500_>
the ti toolchain can give a ton of feedback on the code generated

the c6x dsp can certainly do a fixed-point fft pretty well
- [20:41:18] <_av500_>
like how many instruction it could schedule for double issue etc
- [20:41:28] <mru>
_av500_: generated?
- [20:41:30] <_av500_>
just recompiling arm code wont cut it
- [20:41:37] <mru>
you don't generate code, you must *write* it
- [20:41:48] <_av500_>
asm it generated
- [20:42:00] <_av500_>
you can hint the compiler with stuff like loop iterations etc
- [20:42:11] <mru>
if you want it fast, you'd better write the asm yourself
- [20:42:16] <_av500_>
or that
- [20:42:55] <_av500_>
nkh: and the secret of the dsp is not that it is faster than the arm

well yes

if you're really lucky
- [20:45:58] <aholler>
the arm-code, if written in c, depends a lot on compiler options to. so it doesn't make sense to say the c-fft is faster without sepcifying all used options
