The PocketBeagle 2 is – in the current RAMpocalipse – criminally good value for a board to learn embedded Linux development on. Feeling a little bored this weekend, I decided to dust off the old GamePup cape originally designed for the original PocketBeagle and modernize it by plugging in a Pocket 2.
Then I thought let’s take it one step further and add a second screen to it so we can get performance monitoring while also testing that the MikroBus header works!
The project itself is documented on Github and admittedly I may or may not have gone a bit overboard with the UI and game emulator portions (thanks Codex) but the most interesting and re-usable bits are the complete device tree overlay that you can now apply for the Pocket 2 + Gamepup as well as some of the features like allowing the Pocket 2 to auto-import ROM files by showing up as a temporary USB drive.
Overall a fun little weekend project and hopefully a fun start to your next little gadget!
