This project provides pre-configured real-time Linux images and device tree overlays for the BeaglePlay (AM625x) and BeagleBone Black (AM335x) platforms, resolving common hardware timestamping timeouts and enabling out-of-the-box IEEE 1588 PTP (Precision Time Protocol) synchronization.
-
Integrated with the Linux PREEMPT_RT patch on kernel v6.6 to guarantee predictable scheduling and ultra-low jitter.
-
Configured with custom Device Tree overlays that enable pps-gpio driver bindings and hardware timestamping support for native SoC Ethernet controllers.
-
Automatically launches ptp4l and phc2sys services on system startup for both Grandmaster and Slave modes.
-
Employs an initramfs-backed setup with an EROFS root filesystem to prevent image corruption and improve system stability.
-
Includes complete instructions to inspect and mount all image partitions, including FAT32 for boot, Ext4 for the kernel and device trees, and EROFS for the root filesystem.
-
Ships full kernel config files and build flags for completely reproducible compilation.
-
Features a custom, statically compiled userspace testing utility (pps-pulser) leveraging timerfd and GPIO ioctl v1 interfaces to generate hardware timing pulses.
-
Provides a practical testbed to physically measure and verify post-synchronization user-space latency and pulse drift using an oscilloscope.
